Letter of Recommendation requests have concluded for Fall 2020. Students have already been notified if Mrs. Young will write them a letter of recommendation. Letter of Recommendation Application for Fall 2020
Rationale It is impossible for me to write a letter of recommendation for every student that would like one from me. Good letters of recommendation take time and Mrs. Young writes letters because she cares about her students, not because she is required to. She limits the number of letters she writes to ensure the quality of the letters.
How many letters will Mrs. Young agree to write? Mrs. Young will write no more than 20 letters of recommendation. Students who are TA-ing for her in 2020 have first priority and are already on her list. (TA’s please still fill out the application form, so I can start collecting info from you for your letter.)
What are Mrs. Young’s requirements of me as a student in order for me to apply for a letter of recommendation? 1. Absolutely no academic integrity issues. 2. Take and pass the AP Calc AB exam. (You obviously won’t know if you pass until summer, but I usually have a pretty good sense of this by now.) 3. Willingness to waive your rights to access the recommendation. All letters that I write are kept private from the student. 4. I do not want to be your third recommender. It is completely unfair to students who are struggling just to get two recommenders for me to be your third recommender.
What will Mrs. Young take into consideration when deciding who she will write letters for? 1. Observations throughout the school year of in-class work ethic, collaboration, growth, perseverance and willingness to challenge oneself. 2. For 2020, active participation in learning activities during the closure and AP test work, which she will get to see from CollegeBoard on May 26. 3. Your application form, which can be filled out HERE.
Timeline Wed 5/20- Application Instructions will be posted Wed 5/27 12PM- Application forms due. I will not consider applications submitted after the deadline Wed 6/3- Selected students will be notified via email. If you do not hear from me, it would be a good idea to reach out to other teachers who you may want to potentially write your letter.
Please understand that if I had the bandwidth, I would want to write letters for everyone, but this is simply not feasible. This selection process is to help me determine who I can write the best letters for, which makes the process easier for me and allows me to prioritize my primary job of teaching math. If I do not select you, please know that I still enjoyed having you as a student and that I know that all of you have demonstrated great qualities in both character and math content in my class.
Letters of Recommendation for Summer Programs 2020 I require at least two weeks notice with the supplemental questions turned in for all summer program recommendations. (Ex: If your deadline for your program is March 14, the last day to ask and turn in the supplemental questions is March 1.) Additionally, once I hit my cap I will not accept additional requests. Be proactive!
If you have already asked me to write your letter of recommendation, please fill out the following questions and email your responses to me.
